CASTING CALL

(For Non-Union Talent Only)

If you are interested in being informed about audition dates & information, please follow the below Casting Call instructions.

Read the Character Descriptions below to choose which character you'd like to cast for. Note: If you choose to audition for the play OMNI Sudan as a dancer, please note whether or not you are auditioning as a single dancer or with a dance troupe. If an African dance troupe is interested in performing in OMNI Sudan, a separate audition date and time will be scheduled for all dance groups.

Email your resume and performance experience/background along with your professional headshot, profile (height, ethnicity, age and gender) to casting@teneplays.com

You will receive an email confirmation receipt.

Audition Details (date, location & time) will be emailed to you approximately 45-60 days prior to first rehearsal date. (your information/documents will be held on file and brought to the audition site. If you are not present, your documents will be held for future casting opportunities for a limited amount of time)

Note: Call backs along with details will be emailed if selected. Selected characters will be emailed along with rehearsal instructions soon after. No one is available to respond to any calls relating to casting results,

CASTING CHARACTERS

MaRuby
Main Character. Widowed mother with one daughter Mimi. God fearing, family oriented. Moderate dresser and personality. Well known & respected in neighborhood. Younger sister to brother, U-Henry. Singing skills a plus. Age = mid 50's.- mid 60's. If older or younger, should be able to characterize this age range.

U-Henry (Uncle Henry)

Main Character. Older Brother to Ma Ruby. Retired Volunteer Fireman. Comical. Big flirt. Never married with no children. Age = 60’s . Can also be played by younger character utilizing make-over to look older but able to characterize this age range.

Mimi

Main Character. MaRuby’s only living child. Lives at home with mother. Attending 2 yr community college. Gullible and doesn’t realize her own physical beauty. Singing and dancing skills. Age = early to mid 20’s. If older or younger, should be able to pass for this age range.

Vaneesha

Mimi’s best friend and college buddy. Sarcastic and witty. Singing and dancing skills. Age = early to mid 20’s. If older or younger, should be able to pass for this age range. Hispanic ethnicity preferred but not mandatory.

Loretta

MaRuby’s best friend. Humorous "chit chatting" and hard to handle. Flirty character & adores UHenry. Lots of personality. Age = mid 50’s. If older or younger, should be able to pass for this age range.

Mimi’s boyfriend. New guy in town. City minded & nice dresser. Handsome and misunderstood. Singing and dancing skills. Age = early to mid 20’s. If older or younger, should be able to pass for this age range.

Cori

Long time neighborhood Newspaper boy since teenager. Quiet & Shy. Studders. Secretly likes Mimi. Has a very good Singing and/or Dancing skills. Ex: play instrument (sax or guitar); dance (mime, tap, contemporary) Age = early to mid 20’s. If older or younger, should be able to pass for this age range.

Darien

JC's best friend. Singing & dancing skills a plus but not a must. A jealous outsider. Age = early to mid 20’s. If older or younger, should be able to pass for this age range. May play an additional cameo part.

Deacon Francios

One time appearance. A "fresh" acting Church Deacon. Somewhat comical. Unique style. Age = 60's. Can also be played by younger character utilizing make-over to look older but able to characterize this age range.

Lady in Red (Cameo)

One time appearance. Shameless Interuptor toward MaRuby.

OMNI-Sudan
Sept. 2025

An extraordinary theatrical play production that reveals a dramatic peak at the lives of 5 young Sudanese cattle boys. This inspired story will capture your complete attention as you witness their path's journey that totaled over one thousand miles toward hope and restoration. You will hear thundering drum beats while enjoying exciting native dances and songs. Witness dramatic peaks of a brutal entry from their peaceful & loving village into a harsh wilderness. As the journey continues, you will be given the opportunity to be educated and enlightened for a better understanding of how the survival and courage of very young children became possible despite their daily atrocities. These 5 Lost Boys of Sudan, cross unexpected rescue attempts that eventually crosses the path of an American boy whose journey also speaks into our own lives and unforeseen destinies.

CASTING CHARACTERS:

Characters can be young adults that can pass as teenagers. Young & innocent at heart. Note each character's description & talents.

Darth
(MAIN CHARACTER) has always been an inquisitive child.. He shows signs of conquering his new drum his father just gave him. Darth’s father is the village Master Drummer. He loves playing creative beats for his sister, Sarai to dance to

Otim

is the same age as Darth. He's like a real brother to Darth. Otim likes to read with his mother.

Boaz

is always up to mischief. He loves to create new games to play and of course since he made them up, he usually won. Boaz has 1 older brother and an Uncle that stays with his family.

Gabriel

is close in age to his youngest of 2 sibling sisters. His older sister is 11 years old , but his younger sister likes to play rough with him They love to run and play throughout the village. Gabriel’s father is a minister and his mother weaves baskets

Gak

is the oldest of all the boys by 3 years, so he works hard at trying to be a good example. Gak has 4 younger sisters. His father is a diplomat and village councilman. Gak gains much of his wisdom from his father and nurturing nature from being surrounded by female siblings.

Sarai

Darth's Younger Sister by 1 year. They are very close friends. She's brave and loves to play rough with Darth's friends. She loves nature. She sings beautifully and is a superb African dancer. She's had lots of practice from her brother Darth's creative drum beats.

Heru

American born boy, same age as Darth. One Sister. Taught drumming by his father at early age. Loves African culture & history.

Chaka

American born boy. Best friend to Heru. Street wise and likes living on the edge of life.

Female & Male African Dancers & Drummers

Background Experience in a Cultural Dance form. Professional African dance experience preferred. Could be an existing African dance troupe or professional dancer that learns moves easily.

Heru's Mother (Cameo)

Few lines. Teacher.

Heru's Father (Cameo)

Drumming a plus but not required. Family oriented father.

Extras

Needed for village scenes, etc. No lines. Presents opportunity for local schools' students to experience stage (k-12). Limited # of participants.
