About The Play

omnil_synopsis.jpg

Years ago, I had the opportunity to attend a conference in Atlanta, Ga where the Lost Boys of Sudan were being introduced to tell their story.  I was so moved, that after the conference, I introduced myself and asked if we could meet to talk more about their story & discuss how my being a playwright could be helpful.  I sincerely wanted to be of help the best way I could, so since I wasn't rich, I felt my playwriting background experience could be an educational opportunity for others to learn about their story. After meeting with several of the "lost boys of Sudan",  which was a nice & meaningful meeting, they also felt a play telling their story could be a good way to educate many people. With their permission, I began writing but first I felt the play needed a good title.  I pondered and prayed about it for about 2 months and came up with the title OMNI-Sudan (Our Ministry for a Newly Inspired-Sudan).

Not long after, I had a dream about an incident happening to "the lost boys" during their journey and wondered if any part of my dream had taken place, so I called to meet again, shared my dream and to my surprise, this incident in my dream was very close to what happened to them in real life during their second escape.  I was now sure that this play has a divine purpose.  It's been awhile due to the political climate of the topic and my need for funding however, I managed to save enough money to have a Reading production event, after play was written, and was honored to have one of the Lost Boys of Sudan attend along with their representative and mentor, at that time, Neil.  I also learned why they were coined "the lost boys of Sudan".  It was after they were discovered walking through the desert and because of their abrupt separation from their parents and loved ones after fleeing into the wilderness, due to the surprised attacks on their villages, they were coined with that title.  Not knowing the wereabouts of their families after the attack.
